On the arrival of brother Malcom, Joan was kept at home & missed the last 2 weeks of school. She resented that as she loved school & remembered winning the domestic science cup. On finishing school at 14 she went on to spend two years going to night school continuing domestic science and much later became a School Dinner Lady.
